Godzilla will take a lengthy break following the release of a movie this December to mark the monster's 50th anniversary, according to a producer at moviemaker Toho Co.

Shogo Tomiyama said Tuesday: "I don't think there will be another movie for at least five or maybe 10 years. I would like to pour all the knowhow of the last 50 years into this commemorative movie and make it the best one.

"I don't think another Godzilla movie will be made until a completely new way of visual expression is found."

A total 27 movies have been made, from the launch of "Godzilla" in 1954 to "Godzilla, Mothra, Mecha-Godzilla: Tokyo SOS" released last year.

The films have attracted more than 98 million viewers, but Godzilla's popularity has waned in recent years.
