NEC Corp. and Oki Electric Industry Co. said Thursday they will jointly provide Japanese companies operating in China with a range of software and hardware products to help them contact customers directly and manage customer information more effectively.

The products and services range from building and operating computer systems to hiring and training operators, as well as system support, the two electronics firms said.

"We believe the comprehensive solution provided by the collaboration between NEC and Oki will help those companies that intend to differentiate their services for customers in China," Masashi Tsuboi, an Oki Electric executive, said in a statement.

NEC has expertise in system integration in China, while Oki leads the Japanese market for call-center services that allow direct contact between firms and their clients via telephone and the Internet.

By combining their technologies, NEC and Oki can provide corporate customers with full-fledged call centers at minimum cost and in a substantially shortened time frame, the two companies said.

To launch their collaboration, the firms will hold a joint seminar in Beijing on Sept. 3 and Shanghai on Sept. 5 to introduce their services to local Japanese companies.
