Stanley Electric Co. has established a wholly owned subsidiary in Taiwan to produce and market cold-cathode fluorescent lamps, the maker of electrical equipment for automobiles said Thursday.

Taiwan Stanley Electric Co. was set up Feb. 25 and will begin operating in November, turning out 1 million units.

CCFLs are used as backlight sources for liquid crystal displays. The new subsidiary intends to meet growing demand in Taiwan, where the LCD market is expanding rapidly, it said.
