KDDI Corp. said Wednesday it will meet with China Unicom Ltd. and Korea Telecom Freetel Inc. of South Korea to discuss a uniform technological standard for cell phones and the mutual use of video games and other software.

Qualcomm Inc. of the United States will also attend. Qualcomm developed the binary runtime environment for wireless system, a standard applications execution platform for wireless devices, KDDI said.

KDDI said a tieup between telecommunications carriers adopting the system will pave the way for the swift development of software and an increase in overseas sales of competitive software.

KDDI will put on sale a handset with the system in late February, targeting corporate customers. The handset is manufactured by Toshiba Corp.

The company plans to incorporate the system into 7 million handsets in 16 different types of cell phones within two years, KDDI officials said.
