Police arrested a Dutch man Sunday evening for allegedly killing an elderly woman in Tokyo by hitting her on the head with a roller skate, police officials said Monday.
Carolus Dophemont, 41, entered Japan on Saturday on a short-term visa. He is suspected of assaulting Mie Kodera, 85, in front of her home in Ota Ward at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
Police quoted him as saying that he felt a sudden fit of rage after she made eye contact with him.
Kodera had just returned from shopping, and her 90-year-old husband found her collapsed and bleeding at the entrance to the house. Dophemont was reportedly arrested on the spot by officers who rushed to the scene.
