GIFU -- A woman has confessed to paying a second cousin 20 million yen to arrange the murder of her gynecologist husband here in January, investigative sources said Thursday.

The sources said Mieko Tanahashi, 64, made the confession while being questioned by police over the death of her husband, Junichi, also 64.

Tanahashi told police she delivered the money to her second cousin Yuhachi Tanahashi, 65, who later gave it to 51-year-old Masanobu Tabuchi. Both Yuhachi and Tabuchi have confessed to being involved in the murder scheme.

On April 30, police arrested Tabuchi and Kenta Sumitomo, 23, on suspicion of fatally shooting Junichi in the head in front of his home at 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 27 as he returned home.

Police sources said Mieko, also under arrest on suspicion of murder in the case, decided to kill her husband because he lived with another woman and spent money despite his clinic's faltering operations.
