The Crown Princess canceled a three-day visit to Kyoto due to a cold, the Imperial Household Agency said Wednesday.
The princess had planned to attend the opening ceremony of the 34th Annual Meeting of the Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons in the ancient capital during the visit, the agency said.
The Crown Prince left for Kyoto on Wednesday to attend the ceremony alone, it said.
He is scheduled to make a speech at the ceremony, which is being held at a Kyoto hotel, and take in a lecture on the history of modern Japanese surgery.
