The 17-year-old boy who was arrested Monday evening after claiming responsibility for an explosion at a video shop in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward has told police that he “wanted to destroy people” at random.
The boy, who was identified only as a high school junior from Shimotsuga-gun, Tochigi Prefecture, was carrying a shotgun, 39 shells and what appeared to be a hand-made bomb when he surrendered at a police station. He was immediately arrested for illegal possession of a shotgun; the gun belonged his grandfather.
