Police have arrested a 32-year-old Ghanaian businessman and his Japanese wife on suspicion they grew marijuana at their home in Tokyo, police said Monday.

Police raided the residence Saturday after a neighbor reported seeing plants resembling marijuana in the garden of Oteng Bucty Kobina's home in Setagaya Ward, they said.

Police said they arrested Kobina and his wife, Nobuko Shimakura, and confiscated 37.2 grams of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated street value of 180,000 yen and 44 marijuana plants.

Police quoted the two suspects as saying they obtained the seeds three years ago from a person they met in Sado, Niigata Prefecture.
