Akanbo Jigoku (Baby in Hell)

Tokyo Dome City Attractions, Tokyo

Horror maestro and haunted house producer Gomi Hirofumi is back with another thrilling spectacle that runs till Sept. 25. Visitors are entrusted with the mission of saving a baby from evil spirits. Go at night for the real experience, but be warned — it's terrifying.

Toei House of Horrors

Toei Uzumasa Eigamura, Kyoto

Located in a park home to film studios since 1926, this haunted house isn't your average jump-and-scare type. With all the trappings of a cinematic production, the attraction features professional actors and technology from the Edo Period (1603-1868) to help take creepy to a whole new level.

Shiryo no Yakata (House of the Ghost Girl)

Rusutsu Resort, Hokkaido

Following the story of a cursed girl, this gothic-themed attraction stands out from other haunted houses. Taking elements from its Western counterparts, such as gory zombies and chilling French dolls, it will feel like a real-life horror flick. This one isn't for the squeamish.

Silent Rooms

Canal City Hakata, Fukuoka

Calling all brave haunted house fans, Silent Rooms — the first attraction of its kind in Kyushu, and open only until Sept. 11 — is a new haunted house experience that combines elements of both a horror flick and an escape game. Solve innovative challenges and complete missions under a ticking clock. Oh, and try to get out with your wits intact.
