The people at the Atami Plum Garden in Shizuoka Prefecture take meticulous care of their garden's 59 species of ume (plum) trees, which number in the hundreds. So why not celebrate their efforts? A two-month festival plans to do just that.
The trees bloom at different times, so depending on when you visit the landscape will change.
Adding to the festive spirit will be activities that take place on holidays, including dancing by geisha and rakugo performances that feature traditional comedic storytelling. (Yuki Yamauchi)
