Iwate: Nippon-no-Furusato Tono Matsuri

Festival coinciding with an annual festival of the shrine. The highlight of this festival is a parade of local performing arts all native to the Tohoku region such as shishi-odori (deer dance), kagura, taiko and folk dancing held by about 60 grouped people.

Schedule & Key events:
● Sept. 16
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mikoshi proceeds from the shrine, through the main streets of the city, to Otabisho
10:45 a.m.-9 p.m. Parade of local performing arts is held on the city's main streets
● Sept. 17
11:30 a.m. Mikoshi returns to the shrine
noon-1 p.m. Yabusame (horseback archery) is conducted on the grounds of the shrine
1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Baba-meguri (local performing arts) are demonstrated at Kaguraden in the shrine

Location: Tonogo Hachiman-gu Shrine and others, Tono, Iwate

JR Tohoku Shinkansen Line to Shin-Hanamaki Station. From there, take JR Kamaishi Line to Tono Station.
