Sept. 14-Nov. 10

"Art Project Kobe 2019: Trans-" takes place in venues in Hyogo Port, Shinkaichi and Shin-Nagata, all areas historically connected to Kobe, a city that flourished during the Edo Period (1603-1868) and Meiji Era (1869-1912) as a hub of trade and cultural exchange.

Deliberately showcasing works in public venues, rather than in museums or galleries, this project aims to highlight Kobe's community and local materials. Two artists have been invited to participate: German-born Gregor Schneider, a pioneer of architectural and constructed spaces as art, and photographer and video artist Miwa Yanagi, whose theatrical images have also been turned into productions and performances.

Shinkaichi, Hyogo Port and Shin-Nagata areas of Kobe, Hyogo. Hours and holidays vary by exhibit venue. All-access ticket ¥1,500, prices to individual venues vary. 078-515-6034; trans-kobe.jp/en
