Language: German and Polish

Want to see how the meat and vegetables on supermarket shelves are processed? For two years, Austrian director Nikolaus Geyrhalter filmed, with permissions, inside processing plants, harvesting depots and slaughterhouses around Europe. Cows and pigs are shot in the head with bolt guns and later shredded into pieces, while fish are gutted by high-tech machines. In a huge greenhouse, paprikas are automatically sterilized, and elsewhere a biplane is seen dusting a vast sunflower field with what looks like pesticide. With neither explanation, narration, interviews nor music, the camera observes bare reality.
