Samm Bennett's ideal record store would be organized alphabetically, each floor dedicated to a segment of the alphabet rather than a particular musical genre. This would be perhaps the only way of finding all of his work in the same place.
Hunting for Samm Bennett releases currently requires stops in the rock and avant-garde sections, and if his current work is any indication, a stop in the electronica section will soon be required too. As percussionist, improviser, producer and singer/songwriter, Bennett has fashioned a career leap-frogging musical boundaries.
"Personally I tend to not want to compartmentalize things," says the thirtysomething musician. "For me it's not that big a stretch to go from completely improvised music one night, to singing songs the next." For Bennett this means a constant juggling of projects.
