Men’s baseball and women’s softball both return to the Olympics for the first time since the 2008 Beijing Games. Six teams will compete in each event, with host Japan securing automatic qualification to both.
For baseball, the teams competing are Japan, Israel, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Mexico and the United States.
For softball, the teams are Japan, the U.S., Italy, Canada, Mexico and Australia.
Baseball will begin on July 28, and finish on Aug. 7, while softball runs from July 21 to 27.
Venue and access information
Baseball and softball will take place at the 35,000-seat Yokohama Baseball Stadium. The stadium is about two minutes from the South Exit of Kannai Station on the JR Negishi Line and three minutes from Exit 1 of Kannai Station on the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line and Exit 2 from Nihon-odori Station on the Minatomirai Line.
Games will also be played at the 14,300-seat Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, which is about a 10-minute drive from the Fukushima-nishi interchange on the Tohoku Expressway and about 30 minutes by bus from Fukushima Station.
