'Spark': A fool and a straight man walk into a bar...
Stand-up — one comic in front of a microphone — is the default setting for live comedy in the United States. In Japan the equivalent has long been rakugo, a traditional form in which a single performer tells comic stories. Today, however, aspiring comics usually opt for manzai, a style of duo comedy featuring a straight man (tsukkomi) and a fool (boke).

Print run for Akutagawa-winning novel 'Hibana' to top 2 million
Publisher Bungeishunju Ltd. said it will print 400,000 more copies of comedian Naoki Matayoshi's novel "Hibana" ("Spark"), bringing the total number past the 2 million mark amid robust sales after it won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize last month.

Ajinomoto selling coffee drinks carrying essays by comedian-author Matayoshi
Ajinomoto General Foods Inc. put on sale Thursday sets of coffee drinks in plastic bottles bearing short essays by a popular comedian who recently won a prestigious literature award.
