Fullback Ayumu Goromaru's goal with Toulon will be putting points on the board with his boot he said Tuesday, when he was unveiled by the French rugby giant.
"When this offer arrived, I had no reason to turn it down," said the 30-year-old who starred for Japan at last year's Rugby World Cup. "Because the club has extremely high expectations for my kicking, that's the area where I want to achieve solid results."
Toulon, the European champion for three seasons from 2012 to 2015, has a star-studded roster that includes Australian flyhalf Quade Cooper, Kiwi center Ma'a Nonu, South African wing Bryan Habana and Wales fullback Leigh Halfpenny.
"The road I have chosen is a hard one, but it is a challenge worth taking on," Goromaru said.
"You can search the world over and not find another club as excellent as this one. It was an honor for them to come to me. I'm looking forward to competing with the greatest players in the greatest setup."
Toulon will be Goromaru's second overseas club after he made his Super Rugby debut in February. Goromaru played in eight games for the Reds, but his season ended with a shoulder injury in May that required surgery.
"He's a wonderful player, a wonderful kicker," Toulon chairman Mourad Boudjellal said.
