Japan reached the promotion playoff final of the Asia-Oceania zone in the Fed Cup on Friday with a 2-1 win over Thailand.

Japan fell behind the host nation after Eri Hozumi lost 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, but Nao Hibino tied it up with a 0-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Luksika Kumkhum, and Hozumi paired up with Shuko Aoyama to grab a 7-5, 6-0 doubles win over Kamonwan Buayam and Peangtam Plipuech that sent Japan through as Group A winner.

Japan faces Taiwan in Saturday’s final in Hua Hin as it vies for a place in the World Group II playoffs.
