Table tennis phenom Tomokazu Harimoto, 12, was knocked out in the first round of the Poland Open by China's World No. 1 Ma Long on Friday.

Harimoto became the youngest player to progress from the qualifying stage of an ITTF world tour event on Thursday, but he was no match for Ma, who ran out a comfortable 4-0 winner.

The 286th ranked player in the world, Harimoto had overcome Croatia's Tan Ruiwu and Czech Republic's Tomas Polansky in qualifying.

Elsewhere in men's action, Jun Mizutani won his first two matches to advance to the third round, defeating Tomas Tregler of the Czech Republic 4-0 and then Wang Zengyi of Poland, but Koki Niwa came unstuck in the second round with a 4-2 loss to Wang Yang of Slovakia.

In the women's draw, Ai Fukuhara, Miu Hirano and Misako Wakamiya all advanced to the third round, but Mima Ito was eliminated.
