Japan striker Kengo Kawamata has pulled out of the Japan squad ahead of the team's upcoming World Cup qualifier against Singapore due to a thigh injury, the Japan Football Association said Friday.

Midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake also left the squad after his German club Hannover announced Thursday that he will undergo surgery to repair a broken right metatarsal he suffered in training with the national team.

The JFA said it is not planning to call up any reinforcements.

"It is real shame that I have to leave the team now," Kiyotake, who was not in the dugout for Japan's 4-0 win over Iraq in Yokohama on Thursday, said in a JFA statement.

Kiyotake, who plays for Nagoya Grampus, is expected to be out for several weeks.
