Japan striker Kengo Kawamata has pulled out of the Japan squad ahead of the team’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Singapore due to a thigh injury, the Japan Football Association said Friday.

Midfielder Hiroshi Kiyotake also left the squad after his German club Hannover announced Thursday that he will undergo surgery to repair a broken right metatarsal he suffered in training with the national team.
