The Yomiuri Giants have acquired Dominican slugger Juan Francisco, who played last season for the Toronto Blue Jays, the Central League club announced Tuesday.

The 188-cm, 111-kg Francisco has agreed to a one-year contract that will pay him ¥140 million.

"We don't have this type of player on our team," said Giants manager Tatsunori Hara. "I am very excited."

Known for his power hitting, the 27-year-old Francisco has mainly played first and third base. He has a .236 batting average with 48 home runs and 152 RBIs with four major league teams.

"I want to use my strength at power hitting to contribute to the team's victories," Francisco said. "I want to win a championship."
