Yokozuna Hakuho decked out his crowning achievement with the final jewel, wrapping up a monumental tournament by finishing the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament with his 11th-career zensho-yusho on Sunday.
Hakuho, who secured sole ownership of the all-time record with his 33rd career Emperor's Cup on the 13th day, had to reach deep in his energy reserves but found a way to oust rival yokozuna Kakuryu in the finale for an undefeated 15-0 mark.
It was the first time since the 2013 summer basho for Hakuho to win all his bouts.
