Two-time World Baseball Classic MVP Daisuke Matsuzaka has signed with the Pacific League's Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, the Japan Series champions announced Thursday.
The 34-year-old right-hander compiled a 3-3 record last season with one save and a 3.89 ERA over 34 games as a reliever and starter for the New York Mets.
Matsuzaka led the PL in wins for his first three seasons with the Seibu Lions after turning pro out of Yokohama High School. He moved to the majors via the posting system after the 2006 season.
He won the World Series in his debut season with the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and won 18 games the following year, establishing a single-season mark for Japanese pitchers in the majors.
