NISHINOMIYA, HYOGO PREF. – Randy Messenger threw eight scoreless innings and Kosuke Fukudome hit a solo home run as the Hanshin Tigers beat the Hiroshima Carp 1-0 on Saturday in Game 1 of the Central League Climax Series first stage.
Before 46,721 at Koshien Stadium, Messenger allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out six to earn the win in a rare postseason victory for the Tigers.
