Three-time Olympic champion Saori Yoshida, whose father Eikatsu died earlier this week after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, said Thursday she intends to compete in a women's World Cup meet starting this weekend in Tokyo.

Yoshida, 31, who was attending her father's wake in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, said she wants to win the competition being held at Azusawa Gymnasium.

"My father dedicated his life to wrestling, putting it before anything else, so I will compete in the World Cup," Yoshida said.
