LONDON – Japan’s women completed their Group A volleyball matches at the London Olympics on a high note on Sunday with a three-set thrashing of host Britain at Earls Court.
The 25-19, 25-14, 25-12 victory sent Japan into the quarterfinals as the third-place team from Group A with a 3-2 record and nine points from five games. Britain finished fifth with one win and two points.
Japan was led by Yukiko Ebata and Saori Kimura, who scored 14 points apiece, while Risa Shinnabe scored 12.
“We played some tough matches in the preliminary round, but I wasn’t nervous and could play my normal game,” Ebata said. “The next game is crucial and I want to make use of everything I’ve got.”
