Former Brazil right back Jorginho is set to return to Kashima Antlers, this time as manager, senior club officials said Wednesday.

Jorginho, the 1996 J. League Player of the Year during his four-year spell with Kashima through 1998, has agreed to sign a one-year contract.

One of the Antlers officials said, "Jorginho knows our team very well. He's young and has had a successful managerial career in Brazil. We want him to carry on our success in the J. League."

The 47-year-old Jorginho will replace countryman Oswaldo Oliveira, the most successful manager in J. League history with six titles in five seasons.

Oliveira left Kashima for family reasons after leading the Ibaraki club to an unprecedented three straight league championships from 2007 and winning the Emperor's Cup in 2007 and 2010 as well as the Nabisco Cup last month.
