YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday announced the acquisition of former World Cup striker Masashi Oguro.

Last year, Oguro scored seven goals in 22 matches for FC Tokyo, who were relegated to the J. League second division for the 2011 season.

"I'm happy to play at a big club," the 30-year-old said in a statement. "I'll try to score as many goals as possible to contribute to the team's victories."

Oguro started his professional career with Gamba Osaka in 1999 and had spells with French club Grenoble and Torino in Italy before returning to Japan to join Tokyo Verdy, which was then in the first division.

He played at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has been capped 22 times by Japan.
