MARUGAME, Kagawa Pref. (Kyodo) Japan-based Kenyan Mekubo Mogusu stormed to his second win in three years and Britain's Mara Yamauchi won the women's race in the Marugame international half marathon Sunday.

Yamanashi Gakuin University senior Mogusu left fellow Kenyan Daniel Gitau past the 16-km mark and held strong to win in 1 hour, 37 seconds.

Gitau finished a distant second in 1:01:34, followed by Atsushi Sato an additional 50 seconds back, in the event in Kagawa Prefecture opened up for runners overseas from this year.

Beijing Olympic marathon sixth-place finisher Yamauchi came home in 1:08:29, 53 seconds ahead of runnerup Yuri Kano.
