Sano sets national short-course mark at World Cup meet

Japanese swimmer Hidemasa Sano set a national short-course record in the men’s 400-meter individual medley Saturday, winning a World Cup race with a time of 4 minutes, 6.85 seconds.

Sano shaved 0.13 off the previous record he produced a week ago in a World Cup meet in Stockholm. In other races, Maiko Fujino won the women’s 200-meter individual medley in a national-record 2:09.54 and Tomomi Morita set a new mark of 51.71 in finishing third in the men’s 100-meter backstroke.

Oleg Lisogor of Ukraine rewrote the short-course world record in the men’s 50-meter breaststroke when he touched the wall in 26.17.
