Aki Tanaka pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 Friday as Naruto Kogyo of Tokushima Prefecture shut out Kagawa's Marugame Josei 6-0 in the second round of the national high school baseball championship.

Yuta Horie homered in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and Naruto Kogyo added five runs through eight innings to book its place in the third round along with Shonan, Koyo Higashi and Aomori Yamada.

Shonan from Kagoshima Prefecture pounded out 16 hits against three pitchers of Iwate's Hanamaki Higashi en route to a 13-4 rout, in which Shonan left fielder Yuta Kamimori homered and drove home three runs on 3-for-5 hitting. Koyo Higashi took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Yasutaka Mimpo and Kazuma Konoue and the Hiroshima school went on for a 4-2 victory over Toki Shogyo of Gifu Prefecture.

Aomori Yamada eliminated Tokyo's Kokushikan 3-0 on a three-hit shutout by fastballer Masatoshi Yanagida, who also hit a solo homer.
