Akihiro Yano hit a two-run double and Naohisa Sugiyama pitched one-run ball over seven strong innings, carrying the Central-League leading Hanshin Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the Hiroshima Carp on Saturday.

Yano opened the scoring with his double off Yasuhiro Oyamada (5-8) in the second inning and Hanshin added three runs in the fifth to extend the lead at Koshien Stadium.

Sugiyama (5-4) allowed four hits, walked one and hit a batter in earning the win to help hand Hiroshima its fifth straight defeat. The Tigers moved to a season-high 20 games over .500.

Giants 2, BayStars 0

At Tokyo Dome, Kazuhiro Kiyohara delivered a run-scoring single to break a scoreless deadlock in the sixth inning and Scott Mullen held Yokohama to three hits over seven sharp innings, helping the Giants snap a four-game losing skid in a shutout.

Mullen (5-4) struck out five and walked two of the 22 batters he faced and Yuya Kubo worked a perfect ninth to pick up the save. Mototsugu Kawanaka chipped in with an RBI double in the eighth for insurance.

Dragons 5, Swallows 1

At Fukui Prefectural Stadium, Masahiro Yamamoto (6-4) limited the damage to one run and five hits over 7 1/3 effective innings to lead Chunichi to its third straight win in a triumph over Yakult.

The Dragons catcher Motonobu Tanishige had a two-run single in the second, followed by Alex Ochoa’s solo homer to make it 3-0 in the fourth.


Lions 3, Hawks 2

At Fukuoka Yahoo Dome, Takahiko Sato hit a go-ahead homer in the fourth inning and Fumiya Nishiguchi won his Pa-League leading 12th decision as Seibu edged front-running Softbank.

Sato connected to the seats in left-field off Tsuyoshi Wada (9-6) to break a 2-2 tie. Nishiguchi (12-3) limited the damage to two runs, despite allowing 10 hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven effective innings.

Softbank catcher Kenji Jojima missed his first start in the lineup this season after complaining of discomfort in his right shoulder.

Buffaloes 2, Marines 1

At Chiba Marine Stadium, Karim Garcia hit a tiebreaking homer off Yasuhiko Yabuta (5-4) in the ninth inning and Masanobu Okubo struck out two in the bottom half for his 15th save as Orix rallied to beat Chiba Lotte.

Eagles 4, Fighters 2

At Sapporo Dome, Yoshinori Okihara drove home the opening run and went 3-for-5 with three doubles as Tohoku Rakuten won its second straight and sixth in 11 games this month.

Okihara connected for his third double of the day off Yoshitaka Hashimoto (0-1) with two out and a runner on second in the seventh inning to break a scoreless deadlock, before the Eagles added three more runs in the eighth.
