OTARU, Hokkaido (Kyodo) Long-hitting Ryuichi Oda shot his second consecutive 4-under-par 68 Friday to take a one-stroke lead at the midpoint of the Sun Chlorella Classic on Friday.

Oda, winless in his three-year professional career, made six of his seven birdies on the front nine on his way to an 8-under-par 136 total after two rounds at Otaru Country Club.

One stroke behind the leader are David Smail of New Zealand (68), South Korea's Y.E. Yang (70) and Tsuyoshi Yoneyama (71), followed by veteran Hideki Kase at 6-under 138.

Isao Aoki missed the cut after shooting a 10-over 154 in his first appearance in about a year in a top-tier Japanese tour event.
