The Chunichi Dragons are hoping to acquire Yokohama BayStars right-hander Domingo Guzman, officials of the Nagoya-based club said Sunday.

Chunichi said the deal with Guzman, who was to leave the BayStars at the end of this season, was almost a lock and would help bolster the pitching staff since right-hander Akinori Otsuka’s is expected to join the San Diego Padres via the posting system.

Guzman joined the BayStars in 2002 and went 5-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 19 games. This year, he posted an 8-12 record with a 4.69 ERA in 25 games.
