Defending champion Fumie Suguri turned in a solid performance in the women's free program Sunday and came from behind to capture her third title in as many years and fourth overall at the national figure skating championships.

Suguri, bronze medalist at the world championships in March, atoned for her failure in the combination jump in Saturday's short program with one score as high as 5.9 artistry, earning first-place scores from six of the nine judges at Kyoto Aquarena.

In the men's field, world bronze medalist and overnight leader Takeshi Honda skated through his newest routine to win the men's free program and secure his fifth career national title. Honda merited three 5.9s for artistry.
