Regarding the April 22 article “A violent warning for Thailand’s urban elites“: I would like the author to do more research on the opinion of the rich and the poor, the urbanites and the rural residents. The problem is not that the elites are looking down on the poor but that the poor and politically uneducated choose to accept money in exchange for their votes. Some rich politicians (does the name Thaksin ring a bell?) go around the country rounding up these poor to vote for them for just a few dollars. The city people see through this, yet the election has always been rigged so that those bad politicians fill the majority of Parliament seats.
In a time of both misinformation and too much information, quality journalism is more crucial than ever.
