SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- "We're giving our country away," said my friend with serious concern. She was talking about illegal immigration to Italy and how the new arrivals have no respect for the law and have no intention to integrate and will ultimately destroy the fabric of Italian society.

The comment was made in my new hometown, on the central coast of California. And of course, the comment could easily be transported to what's happening in the United States.

My friend wouldn't be the only one to say the U.S. is being invaded. With an estimated 10 to 12 million undocumented residents, it's easy to say we've lost control of our borders.
