Sanae Takaichi, the newly elected president of the Liberal Democratic Party, has gotten off to a positive start, garnering a 66% public approval rating, according to a weekend poll by JNN.
Of all respondents, 66% said they have “high hopes” for Takaichi, with the figure rising to 75% for LDP supporters. Public support for the LDP also increased to 27.9%, up 4.6 percentage points from the previous month.
Asked why they have high expectations for Takaichi, 25% of respondents said that they can “count on her policies,” while 23% each said that “nobody else is up to task” and that Takaichi “marks a new beginning.”
