Takeshi Niinami, who has resigned as Suntory Holdings chairman and CEO for allegedly possessing supplements containing illegal drugs, said Wednesday that he was unaware they had components deemed unlawful in Japan.
The comments came a day after Tuesday’s shocking revelation that Niinami, one of the most prominent business leaders in Japan, is the target of a police investigation over illegal drugs.
“I am confident that I have broken no laws,” Niinami said during a regular news conference as head of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, better known as Keizai Doyukai, packed with media outlets hoping to hear his side of the story. “I believe I am innocent.”
