Tokyo reported 8,341 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, up by 4,538 from a week before, with the daily count exceeding 8,000 for the first time since April 14.
The Japanese capital saw its daily infection number grow week on week for the 19th straight day, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
