An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 rocked Ishikawa Prefecture and surrounding areas of central Japan on Thursday evening, but there were no tsunami threats or abnormalities at nuclear power plants, authorities said.

The quake occurred at 6:42 p.m., registering a lower 5 on the Japanese earthquake intensity scale of 7 in Suzu, Ishikawa Prefecture, with the epicenter in the Noto region of the prefecture at a depth of about 10 kilometers, the Meteorological Agency said.
