Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is considering Kumamoto Prefecture as a possible location for a chip plant it may build in Japan, sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday.
The development comes after efforts by Japan’s government, which regards securing a stable supply of semiconductors as important for national security, to persuade the world’s largest contract chipmaker to set up a factory in the country.
