The world exposition body on Tuesday formally approved plans for the 2025 Expo in Osaka in its virtual general assembly, paving the way for the city to start preparing in earnest and invite participants from abroad.

The Bureau of International Expositions approved detailed plans submitted in December last year, officially confirming Osaka's status as the host of the 2025 event.

The proposal includes financial plans for ¥125 billion in construction costs, which will be split evenly by the central government, Osaka Prefecture and the city of Osaka, and private companies.
