Jobs in nursing care are becoming more attractive for people in Japan amid worsening prospects in a labor market ravaged by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The nursing care industry, meanwhile, is hoping the trend will help it cope with one of the worst labor crunches affecting any sector of the Japanese economy, with more than four times as many jobs available as applicants.

But difficult challenges, such as retaining workers and improving their treatment, lie ahead, especially once the pandemic subsides.
