A huge typhoon may make landfall on the Shikoku and Kyushu regions around Thursday, the Meteorological Agency said Monday, warning of torrential rain and strong winds along the Pacific coast of eastern and western Japan as early as Tuesday.

As of 9 p.m. on Monday, Typhoon Krosa, with an atmospheric pressure of 965 hectopascals at its center, was located over the ocean some 550 km west of Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands. It was moving northwest at about 15 kph (9 mph).

Rainfall of 200 mm is forecast for the Tokai region in the 24 hours up to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
