Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. said Wednesday that it will launch a heavy-duty truck featuring so-called Level 2 automated driving technologies in autumn.
The autonomous technologies to be introduced for the Super Great truck allow steering, accelerator and brakes to be controlled by the vehicle, the automaker said.
Mitsubishi Fuso, a unit of Germany’s Daimler AG, aims to achieve Level 4, which provides for automated driving in limited areas, a company official said.
It appears hard to benefit from the introduction of Level 3 technologies that require people to intervene in driving operations when necessary, the official said.
