Two Japanese tourists died in a car crash Friday in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's Big Island, local media reported.

The two women have been identified as Takako Oikawa, 70, of Kanagawa Prefecture, and Michiko Ono, 69, of Tokyo, West Hawaii Today reported Saturday, citing local police.

They were traveling in a sedan driven by a 69-year-old Japanese man when the vehicle crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck, the report said.

Oikawa and Ono were confirmed dead after being taken to a hospital. The Japanese driver and another male passenger in the sedan as well as the local man driving the pickup also suffered injuries, it said.

Tourists have continued visiting the island despite the eruption of the Kilauea volcano, which has forced local authorities to ban entry into some areas.
