Trade and environment ministers from the Group of 20 nations will meet in Japan in June next year to discuss the digital economy and energy conversion for sustainable development, the government said Tuesday.
The G-20 ministerial meeting on trade and digital economy is scheduled for June 8 and 9 in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, while the meeting on energy conversion and the global environment is slated for June 15 and 16 in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture.
"Our country will take the initiative in discussions to achieve global growth through development of innovative technologies like artificial intelligence," internal affairs minister Seiko Noda said of the digital economy meeting at a news conference.
Japan will succeed Argentina in taking the rotating G-20 presidency for the first time next year, with Osaka slated to host the main summit June 28 and 29.
The G-20 advanced and emerging economies are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the U.K., the United States and the European Union.
