Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe will face an opposition-sponsored no-confidence vote in the city assembly on Wednesday, a source said, as the fallout over his misuse of political funds continues.

The Japanese Communist Party decided to introduce the motion Tuesday in response to the governor's decision to remain in his role, the source said.

It comes as the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition ally, Komeito, consider filing a separate motion against the embattled governor, which they say is dependent on how Masuzoe explains himself during deliberations on Monday.
